A Gen 1 truck leaves the factory on leaf springs, so its frame has nowhere to carry a coil spring or locate a panhard bar. This kit adds those pickup points in the Gen 3 positions, which is what lets the rest of a Gen 3 style 5-link rear bolt in and work the way it was designed to.
Why Factory Gen 3 Geometry Matters
In a 5-link rear, the coil springs carry the weight and the panhard bar holds the axle centered side to side. Where those mounts sit decides how the axle moves through its travel. Put them in the wrong place and the axle steers, the springs bind or the panhard bar pulls the axle off center as the suspension cycles.
